The lack of control over the changes that the population makes to their homes and the discontinuity of the experience of the Community Architects Program have accentuated the contradiction between the individual needs of families and the harmonious development of Cuban cities. To assist in the solution of this conflict, an optional course on participative housing design, which applies the method of the Argentine architect Rodolfo Livingston, is regularly taught at Havana’s Architecture Faculty. This article analyzes some of the results obtained in the last years, which show the advantages of the procedure used as an important complement in the basic training of the architect. With this, it is hoped to contribute with the solution of the described conflicts, taking advantage of the creative potential of the population for the satisfaction of their needs and the valorization of the urban environment.
