About the Journal
Revista Científica de Arquitectura y Urbanismo, AU, is an open-access electronic publication dedicated to disseminating original research findings that encompass territorial, urban, and architectural scales, and their relationships with design and the visual arts, within the fields of theory and history, planning, design, conservation, construction technologies, management, and education, among others.
AU pays special attention to issues related to habitat, sustainability, the built environment, and the restoration of heritage buildings, particularly in developing countries, and is also interested in topics related to the training of professionals in architecture, urban planning, and design.
AU guarantees the quality of its publications through a rigorous selection process of submitted manuscripts, which are subjected to a peer review process. AU has an editorial board composed of prominent academics from various institutions and countries, and a panel of reviewers of international standing in their respective fields.
AU is a publication of the Facultad de Arquitectura, Universidad Tecnológica de La Habana José Antonio Echeverría, Cujae, part of the Ministerio de Educación Superior de Cuba (MES). It is registered with the National Registry of Serial Publications (RNPS 2064) and certified by the Ministerio de Ciencia, Tecnología y Medio Ambiente de Cuba (CITMA).
AU is the successor to the journal published in print format between 1980 and 2007 (ISSN 0258-591X), which, since 2001, has been published in digital format (ISSN 1815-5898). Starting in January 2025, the journal adopted a continuous publication model, without numbered issues, replacing the previous practice of publishing three issues per year, which had been in effect until volume 45, corresponding to 2024.
Objective
To offer a space for the communication and sharing of original research and project results that span territorial, urban, and architectural scales, and their relationships with design and the visual arts, within the fields of theory and history, planning, design, conservation, construction technologies, management, and education, among others.
Mission
To contribute to the development of scientific and technical knowledge in the thematic areas it covers, through the dissemination of results of excellence derived from research and projects aimed at solving relevant and current problems in the theory and practice of the profession, for the benefit of society and the built environment.
Vision
AU's vision is to establish itself as a leading publication within its geographic area through sustained improvement in the quality of its editorial process.

Arquitectura y Urbanismo publishes original papers on issues that include the territorial, urban, and architectural scales, as well as on the relationships between the built environment, design, and the visual arts. It devotes special attention to the results of research related to habitat problems, the recovery of built heritage and the built environment, especially in developing countries. The journal is also interested in topics related to training in the field of architecture and urbanism.
Mission: Disseminate the results of research in the fields of architecture and urbanism developed in Cuba and elsewhere. Promote the exchange of ideas on issues of architecture and urbanism, conservation, habitat in developing countries, sustainability and other topics. Promote the debate on education, training, curriculum design and development of teaching experiences.
Vision: To become a reference magazine in the different fields of architecture and urbanism in Latin America.
Objective: To contribute to the dissemination of the results of scientific, professional and academic work in the different fields of architecture and urbanism, with a view to improving research, design practice and teaching.
Sectios and types of articles
Section: With Criteria: Publishes original scientific-technical results within the profile of architecture and urbanism, and its relationship to other branches of design and the visual arts. The types of articles that it contemplates are scientific articles, review articles, and reflection pieces.
Of the Kingdom of this World: Addresses different problems of professional interest within the profile of architecture and urbanism, and its relationship to other branches of design and the visual arts. Includes brief communications, interviews, and reviews.
Academics: It covers theoretical studies and practical experiences on problems related to the teaching of architecture, urban planning and other branches of design and visual arts. The types of articles that it contemplates are scientific articles, review articles, reflection pieces and brief communications.
Editorial: Opinion article, political statement, or general comment on a relevant topic of the theory, practice, or teaching of architecture and urbanism, prepared by a member of the Editorial Board or an invited professional.
