To Re-discover the Modern Movement from a Teaching Exercise
ABSTRACT. Hidden modernity in southern Havana is an elective subject that has been part of the Architecture career curriculum for two years. This subject is intended to explore the presence of examples of the Cuban Modern Movement in poorly studied residential plots. This teaching exercise complements the contents of the subject: Theory, criticism and history of architecture and urbanism, which is taught in the third year of the career. It is conceived as a short structured research in three stages (field work, archival work, and analysis and discussion of results). The recommended methodology allows the student to develop skills and competencies to expand knowledge and achieve a better understanding of the codes of Cuban architecture between 1945-1965. Additionally, the subject helps to promote public recognition and stimulate actions for the conservation of modern Cuban heritage.
