La periferia habanera 1940-1960: una mirada a su retícula urbana

A partir de la década de 1940, La Habanaexperimentó un crecimiento acelerado, de forma
tentacular y anárquica, de su perímetro urbano. Esta
expansión se caracterizó por el abandono del modelo
decimonónico heredado de manzanas cuadradas para
asimilar una nueva estructuración de su trama con
manzanas acentuadamente alargadas y estrechas. Sin
embargo, este proceso de mutación de la cuadrícula
apenas ha tenido espacio en la literatura especializada
de la historia de La Habana. El modelo permitía optimizar
el terreno a partir de un loteo homogéneo, que otorgaba
a cada vivienda fachada directa hacia la calle y favorecía
su valorización. Con vistas a conocer cuál fue el impacto
y el significado de esta nueva manera de estructuración
urbana, se desarrolló una investigación histórica,
basada en el análisis de diversas fuentes escritas y
gráficas, complementadas con un trabajo de campo que
permite visibilizar sus principales rasgos.
