CENTRO HISTÓRICO DE CAMAGÜEY PATRIMONIO DE LA HUMANIDAD
Abstract
En la 32ª Reunión del Comité de Patrimonio Mundial de la UNESCO, celebrada en julio del pasado año en Québec, Canadá, fue aprobada la inscripción del Centro Histórico Urbano de Camagüey, en la Lista del Patrimonio Mundial y proclamado oficialmente en Camagüey, en febrero del 2009, a partir de los siguientes criterios:Criterio IV. El Centro Histórico de Camagüey constituye un sobresaliente tipo urbano arquitectónico en Latinoamérica, caracterizado por su trazado urbano irregular que produce un inusual sistema de plazas y plazuelas, calles sinuosas,
callejones y un sistema de manzanas y parcelas. Edificios religiosos asociados a las plazas principales, constituyen un sistema de referencia urbano. La arquitectura
monumental y doméstica conforma un tejido urbano homogéneo donde es posible encontrar expresiones arquitectónicas correspondientes a diferentes períodos de
la evolución de la villa.
