LA CIUDAD ES MUCHO MÁS QUE UN LUGAR EN EL MAPA
Abstract
Se aborda un enfoque teórico-práctico sobre el desarrollo de la ciudad de Camagüey y su proyección en el tiempo. El mismo pretende poder combinar el discurso teórico con la realidad captada de forma crítica de eso que se ha dado
en llamar derecho a la ciudad. La visión del tema es acercarse, desde una nueva perspectiva, al estudio de la problemática urbana evitando reducir la arquitectura a
símbolos carentes de contenido. La realidad urbana de Camagüey muestra una estructura deformada, con desbalance de actividades, déficit de conexiones y
deterioro de parte de su fondo construido; pero posee un apreciable potencial con reservas de suelo construible y un valiosísimo centro histórico recientemente declarado Patrimonio de la Humanidad. Los tiempos actuales requieren de una ciudad accesible a todos y con calidad. La ciudad de Camagüey enfrenta el reto. Su posición dentro del sistema urbano territorial y regional se lo exige, sus habitantes lo desean y técnicos y decisores se preparan para ello.

The text approaches a practical theoretical focus on the development of the city of Camagüey and its projection in time. It pretends to combine the theoretical speech with the captured reality in a critical way of what has been called right to the city. The vision of the topic is to get closer, from a new perspective, to the study of the urban problems, avoiding to reduce the architecture to symbols lacking in content. The urban reality of Camagüey shows a deformed structure, with desbalance of activities, deficit of connections and deterioration of its built-in heritage; but it
possesses a huge potential on plots of land to build in, and a valuable historical center recently declared World Heritage. Modern times requires of an accesible qualified city for all. The city of Camagüey faces the challenge. Its position inside the territorial and regional urban system demands it, its inhabitants want it, and technicians get ready for it.
