The Singular Landscape of “Nuevo Bayamo” Habitat: Preliminary Intervention Ideas
Keywords:
landscape potential, habitat, New Urban Agenda in Cuba, Nuevo BayamoAbstract
The progressive environmental deterioration and the inadequate transformations that take place in the “Nuevo Bayamo” Habitat affect the unique landscape and the well-being of the residents of the place. This research aimed to contribute to the solution to these conflicts through proposals that took into account the environmental challenges and the local landscape restrictions and potentialities. In the process, the historical-logical method, and the procedures of analysis-synthesis, documentary search, and direct observation were applied, and the methodological recommendations proposed by Aguiló for studies of landscape potential were followed. As a result, preliminary intervention ideas are provided to recover the urban complex and its public spaces, in favor of the continuous improvement of the eco-neighborhood, with community participation. It is concluded that the research contributes to the recognition and protection of local heritage values, based on good practices of collective intelligence and collaborative resilience, aimed at implementing the New Urban Agenda in Cuba in future scenarios.
