OnArchitecture, PhysicalPlanning and Economy: Talkingwith René Castellanos
Keywords:
Architecture, physical planning, urban and country planning, René CastellanosAbstract
Architecture, physical planning and economy may seem like three separate and isolated fields of study. However, knowing the rich experiences of René J. Castellanos Romeu in his extensive and still intense professional practice as an architect-planner allows to clearly understand the interrelationship and identify the transversality among these three disciplines. Basic training in architecture, with complementary studies in planning and economics, together with multidisciplinary group work, should guarantee the elaboration of more comprehensive and innovative regional and urban development projects, which allow us to face the challenges of sustainable development and confront the climate change to modify or create new, more accessible, and habitable contexts in our environment-habitat. In the interview, it is stated clearly that, the actions of the architect-planner have a determining role in this purpose. University, other factors, and decision-making actors in society are called upon to intervene proactively in this challenge.
