New Abstraction. Conceptualization and Empathy in the Works of José Cruz Ovalle
Keywords:
Chilean contemporary architecture, José Cruz Ovalle, phenomenology, abstract, empathyAbstract
The concept of new abstraction proposed by the Chilean architect José Cruz Ovalle links the essential to the projected. A phenomenological process that begins with observation, from a first act of detachment in search of a reinterpretation of the circumstances that give uniqueness and origin to the project. He inquiries into this proposal, with the objective of denoting the integration of the empathic from the conceptual construction of the project. The relationship with other definitions of the abstract in architecture is established, in order to make Cruz Ovalle's contribution explicit. For the development of the work, fragments of the stories, graphs and other sources that relate to the architectural making of it are considered. As a strategy, reference is made to two works where a conceptual counterpoint is established considering the presence of the subject inhabiting and perceiving what is projected.
