PATRIMONIO INDUSTRIAL EN PELIGRO
Abstract
El desarrollo industrial cubano ha mostrado ejemplos interesantes desdela segunda mitad del siglo XVVIII y durante todo el XIX aunque de ellos solo
se pueden apreciar algunos dibujos y unos pocos ejemplos que la
búsqueda de rentabilidad ha dejado todavía en pie. Las industrias derivadas
del azúcar, el tabaco y el café junto con las construcciones que ellas
reclamaban cercanas a las áreas de cultivo, han sido emblemáticas de la
economía cubana. Sin embargo, en el siglo XX surgieron nuevos ejemplos
que se han convertido en hitos, sobre todo en la capital, que responden a
industrias de diverso tipo como la cervecera, la papelera, la eléctrica y la
maderera. Las características de estas instalaciones (edificios de grandes
dimensiones, espaciosos locales y alta calidad de construcción) las hacen
interesantes para diversos fines de reconversión no siempre compatibles
con el valor patrimonial de los inmuebles.
