RESUMEN: La industrialización de la vivienda en Cuba tuvo sus inicios en la década de los 60’s, alcanzó su esplendor en los 70’s y casi desapareció con la crisis económica de los 90’s en el pasado siglo. Se aborda el tema con una visión integral, no tratada en publicaciones precedentes, según su evolución histórica, las circunstancias condicionantes y la calidad de los resultados, a más de cuatro décadas, con vistas a extraer lecciones aprendidas de cara al presente y el futuro, para lo cual se emplean métodos teóricos y empíricos, así como criterio de expertos. Se concluye que aun cuando permitió la construcción de una buena cantidad de viviendas por parte del estado, la prefabricación pesada no se adecuó al contexto ni a las necesidades de los habitantes. No obstante, se acumuló una vasta experiencia que se ha ido perdiendo, y hoy se adoptan disímiles tecnologías sin una adecuada evaluación previa.

The Industrialization of Housing in Cuba in the 70´s
ABSTRACT: Housing industrialization in Cuba started in the 60’s, reached its splendour during the 70’s and almost disappeared with the economic crisis in the 90’s. The issue is addressed from an integral view, not treated on precedent research, according to its historic evolution, the conditioning circumstances and the quality of the results, more than four decades later, with the aim to take the learned lessons facing the present and the future. For that, theoretical and empirical methods, as well as experts’ criteria have been used. It is concluded that despite heavy prefabrication allowed the construction of a high amount of housing by the State, it was not adequate to the context or to the needs of its inhabitants. However, a vast experience was accumulated, which has since been lost, and several technologies are assimilated today without an adequate previous evaluation.
