RESUMEN. El artículo brinda una visión del desarrollo futuro de ciudad de La Habana y propone líneas estratégicas a partir de resultados de un diagnóstico urbano y de las propuestas del Plan de Ordenamiento Urbano, que puedan servir para la definición de prioridades y proyectos en respuesta a su problemática. Se aborda una síntesis histórica que destaca los momentos más relevantes de la vida de la ciudad, la rica herencia de su patrimonio cultural y su cultura artística, sus valores sociales y los significativos avances en en el campo de la ciencia, las artes y las humanidades. Como aspecto novedoso en el orden metodológico, se identifican los recursos y potencialidades que posee la ciudad como bases para proyectar su desarrollo futuro sostenible en beneficio de la calidad de vida de sus habitantes donde se materialicen las ideas más avanzadas en el campo del urbanismo y el desarrollo social.

Havana: a Sustainable Future for an Exceptional City
ABSTRACT. The article provides a vision of the future development of the city of Havana and proposes strategic lines based on the results of an urban diagnosis and the proposals of the Master Urban Plan, which can be used to define priorities and projects in response to its problems. A historical synthesis that highlights the most relevant moments of the city's life, the rich heritage of its cultural heritage and artistic culture, its social values and the significant advances in the field of science, arts and humanities are addressed. As a novel aspect in the methodological order, the resources and potentials that the city possesses are identified as the basis for projecting its sustainable future development for the benefit of the quality of life of its inhabitants where the most advanced ideas in the field of urban planning and social development materialize.
