El presente artículo surge a partir de una colaboración con la arquitecta cubanoamericana Beatriz del Cueto en una investigación sobre edificaciones construidas con bloques de hormigón prefabricados en la arquitectura de las antiguas colonias españolas insulares de Cuba, Puerto Rico y República Dominicana. En la primera década del siglo XX, congregaciones religiosas provenientes de los Estados Unidos de Norteamérica edificaron algunas iglesias con esta técnica constructiva, como es el caso de la Primera Iglesia Presbiteriana Reformada de La Habana, identificada en la búsqueda por la ciudad. Se analiza la llegada de la comunidad religiosa a Cuba y a La Habana, la construcción de esta iglesia y su significación histórica y social en su entorno; el municipio de Centro Habana, próximo al reparto de Las Murallas. Se presenta también la estructura arquitectónica, el estado de conservación y los valores patrimoniales del inmueble, que la convierten en valioso exponente del patrimonio inmueble habanero.Downloads
