The Study of Cultural Heritage Conservation in the Faculty of Architecture of UNACH
ABSTRACT: The Faculty of Architecture of the Universidad Autónoma de Chiapas (UNACH), Mexico, was inaugurated in April 1977. Since then, three curricula have been implemented, allowing students to obtain the necessary knowledge for the study of conservation of cultural heritage. The present article intends to analyze the importance of dissertations focusing on topics related to the historic heritage, and to investigate the ways in which the academic process influences the choice of such topics. As of 2014, out of a total of 2,275 dissertations, one hundred and seventy-eight have focused on heritage conservation. In this way, the topic of cultural heritage conservation has gained in importance within the curriculum, especially with the 2013 Bachelor’s Study Plan which established that, as of the eighth semester, students begin to be trained in this area of knowledge.
