Built Heritage Preventive Conservation, Two Scales of an Emerging Approach
ABSTRACT: This paper addresses preventive conservation as an emerging approach in the field of built heritage. Through literature review, interviews with experts, and the participation of authors in international projects related to the topic, it was possible to analyze the advances made theoretically and in practice in two different scales: historic buildings and historic urban areas. The review helped to synthesize the fundamentals of the preventive conservation cycle (anamnesis, diagnosis, therapy, and control). The results show the evolution of this approach as an alternative coherently aligned with the paradigm of sustainable development.
