ABSTRACT. In 2012 the Office of the Historian of the City
of Camagüey analyzed the urban image of Avenida de los
Mártires to both describe the architectural and urban
conditions of the avenue, and to formulate an intervention
plan. Under the hypothesis that the knowledge of the
current physical state of the avenue allows to conceive
an effective intervention plan, a study was developed
applying a quantitative methodology. It began with an
inventory of architectural and urban variables as well
as a descriptive assessment. This initial assessment led
to a reformulation of the original hypothesis, method
and attendant instruments. Hypothesis reformulation
drew upon socio- historical factors that have led the
urban image. Findings include a scheme to guide future
investigations of this type.
