ABSTRACT: Tourism has experienced sustained growth
in recent years in Cuba and national policies favor this
trend. This work seeks new ways to achieve this purpose
by investigating design solutions for tourist facilities with
small accommodation capacity in natural environments,
with the use of bamboo as a building material. Various
theoretical and practical methods were applied, including
the realization of a 1:10 scale model of a cabin. Design
solutions are proposed for a 100-room tourist village
in “Salto y Ganuza”, north of Villa Clara, estimating
that the cost of the bamboo hut represents 61% of a
similar one with traditional techniques. This, together
with the versatility of bamboo to achieve innovative
forms within the national panorama, and its benefits to
the environment, suggests that the proposal is a valid
alternative for hotel development in the country.
