RESUMEN: La Plaza de Armas de Osorno, diseño moderno concebido por el arquitecto paisajista alemán Oscar Prager, es uno de los espacios públicos más longevos y concurridos de la ciudad. Este estudio se aboca a comprender sus valores arquitectónico paisajísticos, así como a develar los modos en que dicho espacio es significante respecto de las necesidades de pertenencia de la población. Las pesquisas se realizaron tanto mediante procedimientos disciplinares de valoración arquitectónica, como desde la sociología,indagando en la percepción de usuarios mediante aplicación deentrevistas con encuestas de percepción de valor de usos sociales y talleres de discusión. Se concluyóque la Plaza de Armas, pieza fundamental del plan paisajístico ideado por Prager, es hoy un lugar relevante del paisaje de la modernidad urbana de Osorno,un escenario identitario complejo cuyos componentes físicos y sociales actúan facilitando el sentido de pertenencia, colaborando en la consecución de un hábitat local sustentable.
ABSTRACT:Osorno's Plaza de Armas, a modern design conceived by the German landscape architect Oscar Prager, is one of the oldest and most popular public spaces in the city. This study aims to understand its landscape architectural values, as well as to reveal the ways in which this space is significant with respect to the needs of belonging of the population. The researches were carried out both through disciplinary procedures of architectural assessment, as well as from the sociology, investigating in the perception of users through the application of interviews with surveys of perception of the value of social uses, and discussion workshops. It is concluded that the Plaza de Armas, a fundamental piece of the landscape plan devised by Prager, is today a relevant place in the landscape of urban modernity of Osorno, a complex identity scenario whose physical and social components act to facilitate the sense of belonging, collaborating in the achievement of a sustainable local habitat.
