ABSTRACT: As a little contribution to the knowledge of the architectural heritage of the Cuban city of Matanzas, this study pretends to explore all the details about the construction of the one of its most representative
buildings, the Santa Cristina barracks. Firstly, we will tackle the administrative process, attending to all its stages from the beginning to the last interventions in the first half of the 20th century. That will allow us to clear up many unknown particulars about its promoters and builders. Then, we will be able to rebuild the original project and to know about its author, the military engineer Manuel Ubiña.
