ABSTRACT: The goal of this paper is to present a methodological approach for the qualitative evaluation of architectural projects, based on the influence of design variables on indoor environments, and their
application in a case-study. The procedure could also be used in the design process to consider, from the very beginning, how the design decisions could affect the indoor built environment, in order to generate the most pertinent architectural form. This study offers not only general recommendations about principles and strategies of design, but also more precise variables and parameters to be taken into account when evaluating existing buildings or projects, and also when designing new ones. The three main architectural design variables influencing the indoor environment of buildings identified in this methodological approach
are volume, space and envelope
