Keywords:

ABSTRACT: Art Deco has been considered in certain
contexts, as a trend or fashion. This research has the
objective of demonstrating that this was an important
architectural movement in Mexico City in the period
between 1925 and 1940. To demonstrate this, the
definitions of periodization, historical durations, and
type of buildings, contributed by Marina Waisman were
used, in the determination of architectural movements.
Historiographic studies were carried out by historical
moment and by architectural morphology, which
correlated social, economic, artistic and urban growth
aspects of the period under study. The work demonstrates
the urban and architectural transcendence of this
movement, defines its Types and provides information
on the buildings in eleven colonies of Mexico City, its
architectural programs, and its main authors. These
results contribute to the knowledge of an important
period of Mexican architecture, still present in the city
and in its historical memory.
