Abstract
Encouraging Students’ Artistic Appreciation Through English at Self-Access Centers.
Abstract: Given the significance of humanistic dimension for professionals, it must be included in the curriculum of engineers and architects. Foreign language teachers tend to design activities that contribute to the relationship among different disciplines and the students’ comprehensive development. This implies not only promoting the scientific knowledge related to the science they study but also the knowledge concerning the culture inherent to all individuals. Appreciating and interpreting art increases the students´ cultural background and help them develop the necessary skills for an effective professional performance. This paper describes a pedagogical experience --- carried out at the Self-Access Center with engineering and architecture students--- which shows the way English language teaching favors oral communication and the students´ artistic appreciation.
Key words: training, Self-Access Center, artistic appreciation.
