Unidades costeras ambientales para el manejo en Santiago de Cuba: delimitación y prioridades de actuación
Abstract
Resumen: La delimitación de zonas costeras es un proceso complejo y dinámico. Las investigaciones consultadas se auxilian de legislaciones o emplean disímiles criterios que responden a las peculiaridades de las diferentes áreas. Basado en la experiencia cubana y mediante la propuesta de variables y parámetros, este artículo muestra los resultados de la delimitación de la zona costera de la provincia de Santiago de Cuba a partir de la definición de cuatro unidades costeras ambientales para el manejo (UCAM). Se define conceptualmente el término UCAM y se elabora el Diagnóstico Ambiental Urbano y el estudio integrado de vulnerabilidades de cada una. Las variables analizadas permiten determinar el orden prioritario de gestión de las UCAM para su posterior declaración como Zonas Bajo Régimen de Manejo Integrado Costero (ZBRMIC). Como conclusión se define la UCAM-Chivirico como primera propuesta para elaborar el expediente de manejo en aras de contribuir al manejo sustentable de los recursos costeros.

Environmental Coastal Units for Management in Santiago de Cuba: delimitation and Performance Priorities
Abstract: Coastal zones delimitation is a complex and dynamic process. In the literature consulted, the authors use the help of to the peculiarities of the different areas for carrying on this process. Based on the Cuban experience and by means of the proposal of variables and parameters, this article reevaluates the delimitation of the coastal zone of the province of Santiago de Cuba starting from the definition of four Environmental Coastal Units for Management (UCAM). The UCAM concept is defined and the Urban Environmental Diagnosis as well as the integrated study of vulnerabilities in each unit is elaborated. The analyzed variables allow defining the high –priority order of the UCAM for its subsequent declaration as Zones under an Integrated Coastal Management Regime (ZBRMIC). As conclusion, the Environmental Coastal Units for Management of Chivirico has been selected as the first proposal for elaborating the management plan with the aim of contributing to the sustainable management of its coastal resources.
