LA CIUDAD. RETOS PARA SU DISEÑO
Abstract
Los retos que implica el siglo XXI han trascendido a las
estructuras urbanas, que se han visto inmersas, como
nuevos actores, en la competencia internacional por
tecnología, capital y mercado. Las ciudades cubanas no
escapan de este proceso, y Camagüey, como centro
urbano importante dentro del sistema territorial y regional
se prepara para asumirlo. Dar respuesta a problemas
sociales, económicos y ambientales es indispensable para
el nuevo rol, pero esto no es posible sin un marco físico
coherente. Por tal motivo para este trabajo se ha
seleccionado el estudio de las condiciones físicas y
espaciales de la ciudad de Camagüey. A partir del análisis
del modelo de estructuración actual, considerando las
tendencias presentes en las teorías y prácticas urbanas
actuales, se definen sus deficiencias y potencialidades y se
reafirma la necesidad de modificaciones al modelo
vigente, como uno de los soportes del progreso
permanente de la Ciudad como un todo y de cada
individuo residente en ella.

The challenges that implies the XXIst century have come
out of the urban structures, which have met immersed, as
new actors, in the international competition for technology,
the capital and market. The Cuban cities do not escape of
this process, and Camagüey, as urban important center
inside the territorial and regional system prepares itself to
assume it. To give response to social, economic and
environmental problems is indispensable for the new role,
but this is not possible without a physical coherent frame.
For such a motive for this work there has been selected
the study of the physical and spatial conditions of
Camagüey's city. From the analysis of the model of current
structure, considering the present trends in the theories
and urban current practices, his deficiencies and potentials
are defined and the need of modifications is reaffirmed to
the in force model, as one of the supports of the
permanent progress of the city as everything and of every
resident individual in her.
