Historical Notes on Social Housing in Rural Mountain Settlements in Cuba
Keywords:
Cuba, social housing, rural mountain settlementAbstract
The architectural solutions for social housing executed in rural mountain settlements in Cuba have not always met the needs and characteristics of their natural and social environment. The objective of the research was to define its historical references from the triumph of the Revolution to the present, its stages of development, main exponents, and the social conditions that influenced its evolution. A documentary study was carried out that included publications on the subject, archival materials and other sources. Historical-logical methods, and analysis-synthesis and induction-deduction processes were used for the study and interpretation of the results. The investigation allowed to define the design criteria used in social housing in these settlements, and their common characteristics. It is concluded that the house under study has gone through different stages, prevailing in its design, technological approaches that move away from the characteristics of its context.
