ABSTRACT: The study and understanding of the
evolutionary processes of cities and their planning
contribute to the harmonious development and
conservation of their values. Although the evolutionary
peculiarities of the city of Santiago de Cuba have been
the subject of previous researches, it was necessary to
study in more depth the period from 1960 to the present
time, to verify the correspondence between its growth
and the management plans implemented. Theoretical
methods were used, for the compilation and revision of
documents related to the planning of the city in different
periods. Professionals involved in these processes were
interviewed, which contributed relevant data on the
subject. As a result, a theoretical and graphic synthesis
of the components of the urban structure of each decade
of the analyzed period is presented, which contributes to
the completion and updating of the evolutionary stages
of the city of Santiago de Cuba.
